John Poote at Sunset

As a relative newcomer to fly fishing and only having fished from the bank previously John Poote kindly offered to take me out on a boat to get some experience. The day was cold but bright and with the gentlest of breezes from the west. There were only 2 other boats out. John took us out on Farmoor 2 on the southern side and set up drifts from mark 5 down to 6. We were on Di7 and 8 using boobies for most of the day, a method new to me and grateful for John’s guidance. Although we only netted a couple each, we lost quite a number as we were barbless and there were knocks and taps throughout the session to keep interest high.

In the afternoon we were joined in that area by the other 2 boats. Catching up with them at the end of the day they reported similar experience. A good day out and very grateful for John’s guidance and support and rounded off with a fine Farmoor sunset.
