Covid 19

With the continuing uncertainty due to Covid 19 we all want to continue fly tying through the Winter months. However there have been changes enforced on us by the Government and  Great Missenden Memorial Centre where we meet on Wednesday afternoons (first Wednesday of each month) and Thursday evenings. These dates are all as on your membership cards and on our web site. The following have to be taken into account now:

  • We are only allowed 6 persons in the Hall as per recent Government restriction.
  • Due to all the cleaning rules of the kitchen area all members should bring their own flask of tea or coffee and any biscuits or cakes they desire to eat.
  • It will not be possible to have  Speaker evenings for this year at least, so we are proposing instead that on Speaker evenings we will hold Workshops for those members who wish to complete the FDG Bronze Award scheme. This would be monitored by John Poote . The Club will source and supply the materials for this.
  • Due to the maximum allowance in the Hall of 6 persons it will be necessary for members who want to attend each meeting  to register this with Keith Allison by e mail  2 days before the meetings. This is very important as we don’t want members travelling unnecessarily to the hall only to find there are already 6 persons there.
  • Masks must be worn during the meetings.
  • We will ensure the tables and chairs are cleaned before and after each meeting.
  • Any members to wishing complete the FDG Bronze Award please let Keith Allison know.

The proposed Club Grayling trip to Wales 26th – 30th October will have to be postponed  until next year.

Club Information

We are a long established club which in a friendly and informal group have been meeting to tie flies and talk about our fishing exploits. After 30 years we have decided to change our club name from the Chiltern Branch of the Fly Dressers’ Guild to the Chiltern Fly Tying and Fly Fishing Club which we think reflects a more modern outlook and terminology.

We have a number of excellent fly tyers who demonstrate at shows and events; they also train newcomers in all the techniques necessary to tie successful flies. Members are encouraged to improve their techniques and assistance is always available to help achieve a better understanding of fly tying.

Throughout the season we organise informal fishing days, we have experienced members who are willing to instruct newcomers in the various skills needed to catch fish.

Our club nights are held at the Great Missenden Memorial Hall, they run from September until April on Thursday evenings from 19:30 – 22:00. Three meetings are held every month:

  • The second Thursday of the month is beginner one-to-one instruction and group improver night.
  • The third Thursday of the month is our very popular ‘Invited Speaker’ evening when top personalities in the fly tying and fishing world demonstrate their skills.
  • The fourth Thursday of the month is a led workshop when one of the members demonstrates step by step how to tie particular flies, often those tied during the speaker evening.
